Christopher Newport University is in compliance with this standard. The University is bound by the policies and procedures for recruiting and employing classified and hourly employees as published by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (Policy 2.05, 2.10, and 2.20) and available on its website (link is available at the end of this document). Policies and procedures for recruiting and employing instructional faculty and administrative and professional faculty are found in the University Handbook Section XI.2.c and on the University website (University Handbook 06-07).
These policies include significant guidance and involvement from the Office of Human Resources and the Director of Equal Opportunity and Faculty Recruitment to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal constitutional provisions, laws, guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations. The Director of Equal Opportunity and Faculty Recruitment monitors the search process for instructional faculty and administrative and professional faculty from start to finish to ensure that search committees are adhering to the University's search procedure. The Office of Human Resources monitors the search process for classified and hourly employees from start to finish to ensure that search committees are adhering to the University's search procedure. The Director of Equal Opportunity and Faculty Recruitment also reviews all classified and hourly search materials before a job offer is extended to verify that the search complies with all equal employment opportunity constitutional provisions, laws, guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations.
The Director of Equal Opportunity provides orientation, training, and guidance to each search committee regarding the search procedures for instructional faculty and administrative and professional faculty. A search may not proceed if this meeting does not occur. The Office of Human Resources provides orientation, training, and guidance to each search committee regarding the search procedures for classified and hourly employees. A search may not proceed without this meeting.
Hiring policies are developed by the Office of Human Resources and the Director of Equal Opportunity and Faculty Recruitment after a review of all applicable state and federal constitutional provisions, laws, guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations and after consultation with the Commonwealth of Virginia Attorney General's Office.
